About Anime Law

Anime Law is a plain language reference on the legal questions anime fans actually run into. Copyright, fan work, licensing, piracy, region locking, AI art and the ownership structures behind the industry.

The aim is accuracy over volume. Each article names the jurisdiction it is talking about, cites the statute, case or official document behind a claim where one exists, and says plainly when something is unsettled. A lot of what circulates about anime and copyright is confidently wrong, and correcting specific widespread errors is part of the point.

What this site is not

It is not a law firm and it does not give legal advice. Nothing here creates a lawyer and client relationship. Copyright rules differ by country, change over time, and turn on the particular facts of a situation. If you need to know what the law means for you, speak to a qualified lawyer where you live.

Corrections

If you spot an error, especially a factual one about a statute, a date or a case, we want to know. Accuracy is the whole value of a site like this.
